| Hotel name: | Hotel Audax |
| Destination: | Cala Galdana, Menorca, Spain |
| Good Points: | Adult only, good food, friendly staff, very nice hotel. |
| Bad Points: | None really. |
| Review: | We stayed at the Audax in June 2011. The hotel met all of our expectations. The hotel has undergone several facelifts since it was taken over by its current owners RTM Hotels, and the process is ongoing with rooms being updated year on year. I understand the Audax is the only adults only hotel on the island and it made a pleasant change not to see kids running around the pool and the dining room. Food: You have the choice of two restaurants, both are very good. The Galdana offers a range of buffet style meals. In addition to serving a variety of cooked meats and fish, the chef is on hand to cook the special meat dish of the day on the plancha grill. The Oliva restaurant serves Italian food, it runs on the same basis as the Galdana, with one difference you can book and have waiter service; our advice is not to bother booking and serve yourself that way you get to choose what food you want. Spa: The spa is highly recommended; myself and my wife booked on a cloudy day and enjoyed 90 minutes (£20 each) in the various pools and saunas. Swimming pools: The main swimming pool is large enough for a good swim, but not too big that it doesn't warm up. There's pretty good selection of sunbeds but as ever you have to get up early to reserve one with your towel. Staff: Everyone we spoke to was very friendly and they couldn't have been more helpful. The only slightly negative part of our stay was our last night, we had to swap our room with a sea view because we booked an extra night and the only room they had left was on the second floor and it had no view. The room had a damp smell - we brought this to the attention of the hotel staff and we were told that it was down to humidity. I wouldn't recommend booking one of these rooms, but it was clean and ok for one night. That room cost us £90 for the night with no evening meal - this compared to £168 per night half board. We would definitely go back to the Audax. |

| Easily the best hotel in the resort. As for the resort itself. I think you'd be slightly disappointed if you were self catering because the local restaurants left something to be desired. We strolled down the front on a few occasions and the restaurants hadn't even bothered to change their menu boards outside, so they were basically offering the same 'special' every night. We tried the local chinese restaurant - and our advice is don't bother. We had spare ribs were very dry. And the spring rolls, consisted of one lousy roll and being honest it was a hugely disppointing. |
