Location: On the Southbank of the River Arno (Oltrarno). By bus: From Via della Scala - which is close to the main Nouvella station, numbers: 11, 36 ,37. On foot: About a 15 minute walk from the station.
Description: Within a magnificent historical setting complete with richly decorated rooms and beside the beautiful Boboli Gardens. The palace was once the home to the grand-dukes of Tuscany and later the King of Italy.

The Pitti Palace now houses several important gallery and museum collections.

The Palatine Gallery highlights include: - superb collection of Renaissance art and Baroque frescoes by Pietro da Cortona and Ciro Ferrie; masterpieces by Botticelli, Veronese, Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian's - May Magdelene, and Raphael's Portrait of a Woman.

The Royal apartments: fabulous frescoes and stuccowork ceilings, opulent furnishings and portraits of the Medici by Justus Sustermans.

The Museo degli Argenti (The Medici Treasury):
The museum is home to an extraordinary collection of artworks, artefacts and objects which belonged to the Medici family. The collection includes ancient Roman glassware, crystal and amber by Florentine craftsmen plus portraits of Cosimo I and the Medici.

The Gallery of Modern Art:
A fine collection mostly dating back to the 18th century up to 1924.

The Costume Gallery:
Overlooking the Boboli Gardens the collection comprises of some six thousand items which include costumes and artefacts dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries. The museum of the history of fashion is the only one of its kind in Italy.
