Good Points: Busy but fantastic.
Bad Points: Quite hard to get a taxi at times.
Review: I have only been to New York City once, but I loved it. Like many major cities it's an extremely busy place, they say "it's the city that never sleeps", that is so true, looking down on the street below from our hotel window the noise and bustle rarely seemed to abate, no matter what time of the day.

We stayed quite near Times Square and that is a top location if anyone is wondering where to stay in Manhattan.

As for recommendations. I can recommend the open top city bus tours, they are a 'must do', also take the evening tour and make sure your camera is fully loaded, the tour guides are first class and really know their stuff. You can buy a ticket that lasts a few days and of course, it's a 'hop-on-hop-off' situation and it is without doubt the best way to get around the city. IF you're able to, dont just stay on the bus, get off and wander round you can always get back on board with regular buses throughout the day.

You might also take one of the many boat trips around Manhattan and Ellis Island, again this is a great photo opportunity. Our boat trip took us around Manhattan and under the Brooklyn Bridge which really is feat of engineering to this day.

Then of course there's the obvious attractions like the Empire State building, try and wait for a clear day if you're planning to go up and then there's Madison Square Garden if there's an event on.

You cannot go wrong in New York City, whether you're going for a short shopping break or a week, you wont be disappointed and will have no shortage of things to see and do. My only negative comments are that it is quite difficult to get a taxi after 4pm. Also our hotel staff weren't quite as friendly as we'd experienced in some other US cities, but that wouldnt ever stop me from visiting again, far from it, I'd go back tomorrow for sure.
