| Review: | We recently stayed in the resort of Los Cristianos, we were not sure what to expect having never been to Tenerife before, but we were pleasantly surprised. The port of Los Cristianos nestles on the southern tip of Tenerife and it is set against a dramatic backdrop of the mountains and hills which dominate this volcanic island. Although the local architecture cannot be described as pleasing on the eye, the many stunning tropical plants and palms that feature throughout the resort are simply beautiful. The weather was what first thing attracted us to Tenerife and were not disappointed as it was over 70 degrees on each day of our stay. We were lucky enough to have superb views of the harbour from our hotel which was situated at the quiter end of the resort. Like many popular destinations Los Cristianos has the usual collection of souvenir shops, bars and restaurants, sadly it also has the dreaded, largely English, timeshare sales people - who tend to linger on the coastal walkway on the out-skirts of the main shopping area. That said we found that a polite "no thank you" will usually deter them and while they are annoying in the extreme they did not spoil our stay. On Sunday's there's a huge outdoor market which attracts hordes of shoppers from all over the island and if you can stand the crowds and the heat, there is bargains to be had raning from jewellery, clothing and interesting trinkets from the nearby continent of Africa. We only stayed for a week and we would like to have done more in that time as we have been told that the North of the ilsand is lush with vegetation and banana plantations. It is very easy to see why so many Brits have uprooted themselves in favour of a better life under the Tenerife sun. Would we go back? We certainly would. |
